The people behind the need
A house fire, medical emergency, family death or unsafe home can destabilize a hospitality worker before the next paycheck arrives. Large hospitality companies have long understood the value of employee emergency funds. Most independent hotels, regional management companies, restaurant groups, franchisees and independent operators care just as deeply but cannot build and administer a separate fund. HRN is being developed so their employees still have somewhere trustworthy to turn.
How the industry can help
Employees could choose a small recurring payroll contribution, employers could match those gifts and hospitality vendors could help fund the trusted system that delivers assistance. An approved charitable organization would protect private information, control charitable funds and make fair, independent decisions.
What HRN is doing now
- Convening hotel and restaurant employers for pilot design.
- Evaluating fiscal sponsors and charitable administrators with relevant grants-to-individuals experience.
- Seeking pro bono legal, accounting, payroll, privacy and governance expertise.
- Documenting conditional vendor interest in future infrastructure underwriting.
- Building policies, controls and reporting before accepting funds or applications.
What participation means today
A briefing, design conversation or nonbinding expression of interest helps establish demand and operating requirements. It does not create a partnership, endorsement, donation, pledge or financial obligation.
